Rls % Alc offers a glimpse into a chaotic and uncertain historical moment, characterised by despair and economic turmoil, set against the backdrop of the rapid depreciation of the Iranian Rial during the COVID-19 pandemic and after.

Kashani collected paper receipts from groceries delivered to his home and house museum (Museum of Sohrab) from 2020 to 2021 during the pandemic and sanitised them with alcohol-based hand sanitiser. Sprayed receipts were kept for different periods and scanned before they faded away.

Museum of Sohrab is one of Kashani’s alter-egos. It is a living, breathing, and constantly moving museum with a collection comprising Sohrab’s possessions, including hundreds of objects and documents, as well as his memories and feelings. Between 2019 and 2023, Museum of Sohrab was based in Sohrab’s former home and apartment in downtown Tehran.

Sohrab Kashani (b. 1989, Tehran) is an artist working primarily with installation, film, and performance. His work often explores themes of space, body, and perception. Kashani assumes the persona of Super Sohrab, an alter-ego superhero who employs satire and the embrace of failure as tools to navigate the complexities of everyday life. Kashani also runs Sazmanab, a curatorial platform that once operated as an art space and residency programme in Tehran and is currently based in the Netherlands. His recent collaborations and duo exhibitions include Darookhaneh Apotheke Pharmacy at uqbar projectspace in Berlin (2022) and The Other Apartment at Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh, US (2019-2020).
