TehranZine is presenting the zines of several Iranian artists this week at Fanzineist Vienna.
A zine is an independent, small-circulation publication, often produced in a form of booklet using DIY methods or low-cost printing. Zines are typically created by individuals who wish to share their voice directly with an audience, without relying on mainstream publishers or media outlets.
The works presented by Tehran Zine at this event include “special edition” and “young artists edition” alongside a selection of zines by artists who have collaborated with Tehran Zine through workshops and open calls.
Fanzineist Vienna, one of Europe’s prominent events and exhibitions in the field of art books and zines, was founded by Deniz Beser. The event began in 2016 in Istanbul as a zinefest ,a cultural and artistic gathering where artists, independent writers, designers, and art publishers present and sell their work in zine format.
In 2019, Fanzineist relocated to Vienna, Austria, and has since established itself as one of Europe’s key events focused on art books and zines.
Fanzineist Vienna is held annually with the goal of showcasing independent and self-published works. Each year, it hosts a wide range of artists and independent publishers from various countries. This year, more than 170 participants from 33 countries will take part, with TehranZine proudly representing Iranian artists at the event.
