Tehran Zine recently participated in the Books Are Bridges Publishing Summit in Rotterdam, following an invitation from PrintRoom.
The annual gathering brings together a small group of selected publishers, artists, and spaces active in the field of art publishing for three days. Through workshops, conversations, and shared meals, participants have the opportunity to learn about one another’s practices, working methods, and experiences.
This year’s theme was “Publishing as a Collective Practice,” exploring how independent spaces, workshops, and collaborative practices can create platforms for making work, fostering exchange between artists, and developing independent publishing projects. Many of the participants are also involved in running spaces that support artists and facilitate publishing projects through collaborative processes.
Unlike many large international events that focus primarily on presenting and exhibiting work, this gathering offered publishers the opportunity to spend more time together, gain a closer understanding of how each other’s projects operate, exchange experiences and challenges, and create possibilities for future collaborations.
During the summit, Tehran Zine presented its projects and activities, while also introducing the work of Iranian artists.
The three-day gathering concluded with Art Book Fest, a one-day public event where participating publishers presented their works and publications to a wider audience.
